The Healthy Low Down on Reiki
Over the past 5years Reiki has become the new buzz word in the world of healing, alternative health issues and relaxation.
Reiki, a form of hands on healing is now widely practised all over the world and being utilised as an additional skill by many people of all backgrounds and interests.
Corporate businesses are now taking an interest in the health of their employees due to stress being the number one cause of absenteeism. Employers are looking to introduce relaxation and de-stressing techniques into the work place and Reiki is the ideal solution to these problems.
What is Reiki?
First, the pronunciation which confuses many people - the easiest way to pronounce Reiki is - Ray-Key. This means literally Universal Energy. The letters Ki - mean energy and in Chinese is referred to as Chi. Reiki is a holistic form of complementary healing connecting to energies both in and around us all.
How Does It Work?
The practice of Reiki is based on working with and channelling energy. Many people refer to Reiki as a spiritual energy. However, it has been proven that energy is all around us and a Reiki practitioner will work with this energy to align with your own energy. Thus bringing about self-healing and a very deep relaxation of the mind and body. Reiki will also assist in un-blocking any energy sources within a person. For example, worries and stress carried in the stomach or the neck will cause a disruption in the personal energy flow and manifest itself in physical problems. A Reiki practitioner will feel this blockage and send a clearing energy to these areas.
Any emotional problems can be tackled by Reiki as well. Sometimes we find it difficult to express our feelings or say what is really weighing on our minds. A few sessions of Reiki or sometimes even only one session can greatly assist in helping to unblock our throat and mind energy sources. Answers can suddenly appear clear to the client whilst in a deeply relaxed state of mind and body. It is also quite common for the unblocking of these energy centres to induce a release of emotions. However, this in turn is beneficial in dealing with physical problems which have manifested within the client due to holding emotions inside. Because of the connection between mental and physical health Reiki is very valuable in its use to reach the mind.
Reiki is completely harmless and gentle yet works in a very powerful and harmonious way with the body. Should you be a sufferer of stress, panic attacks, depression, anxiety or nerves, Reiki energy can help soothe all these ailments by re-balancing the energy within you.
Because Reiki is a holistic method of healing, practitioners will also speak with a client to try and discover underlying causes for the symptoms. Perhaps a poor diet will be adding to the stress a client is experiencing or a lifestyle change is also needed. Reiki sessions usually last for 1 hr. The first session usually longer, due to a consultation being required beforehand.

A Reiki Treatment
A Reiki treatment is one of the most pleasurable experiences one can have. It's non-invasive, not uncomfortable, you don't have to undress for it, you can lay down, or you can sit up. It's preferable to lay down to get the most out of it as you can totally relax, but if you are unable to, for whatever reasons, then sitting is fine too.
Absent healing and Reiki
When a practitioner has undergone their Second Degree course of Reiki, they will have been attuned with the 'distant' symbol which will enable them to carry out healing over a distance. This means that they don't have to be in the same room, same town or even same country in order to heal them! it can be literally done long distance because it is only in the physical world that time and distance matter. When healing over a distance, it is the same as if the practitioner is in the same room as the person they are healing.
